It offers an exploration of the work around three axes: the inner quest, the musical creation, and the intellectual and humanist commitment.
A dedicated database allows researchers, students and readers to discover, analyze and delve deeper into the entire literary and musicological work of the writer's thought.
A writer with many facets
Novelist, playwright, essayist, art historian, and musicologist, Romain Rolland defies conventional classifications. Author of a substantial body of work, he was equally drawn to Renaissance painting, Baroque music, and Beethoven. Confronted with the major issues of the contemporary world, such as colonialism and the liberation of peoples, he corresponded with leading figures from all over the world, from Europe (Stefan Zweig, Sigmund Freud) to India (Mahatma Gandhi), China, Japan, Eastern Europe, and Russia (Maxim Gorky).
